QSITE board member
Clive Gordon has 34 years in education, with a career that mirrors the introduction of ICTs in Queensland education.
As a secondary maths/science teacher in the late 70s, Clive found himself responsible for his school’s first step toward computing technology – the machine that lived in the math department.
Over the years, Clive started to teach computer studies and formalised his qualifications with a Grad Dip in Comp Ed 1996. This was also the time Clive joined QSITE.
Clive progressed to an IT head of department role before arriving at Brisbane’s Moreton Bay College as network administrator, and now manager.
During this time, Clive has continued to assist and organise various IT events, conferences, and workshops to help educators stay abreast of technological developments and opportunities.
This history of educating and supporting teachers makes Clive a clear asset to his employers and colleagues.
“As a network manager I liaise with all levels of the College. School managers need advice on the best technological options for the school, but I must also work closely with the teaching staff to ensure the technology meets the needs of cross-curriculum integration,” Clive said.
“My network of QSITE contacts has provided undeniable assistance, not only in my day-to-day tasks, but also in my development as an ICT professional.
“And I know this will continue. ICT managers like myself are asked to provide advice on major ICT infrastructure decisions and we cannot simply accept what suppliers tell us.
“Accessing the QSITE network and sharing the experience of others is the absolute best way to test my theories and hone my professional advice.
“Into the future, more and more educators will find themselves in situations like mine. An interest in ICT can lead to a specialised career, implementing important decisions for their school and its students. QSITE membership makes that job easier.”
