From the cinema classic ‘King Kong’ through to modern day favourites ‘Wallace and Grommit’, Stopmotion animation has been a popular film style. Let your class get creative and have them shoot a short animated clip explaining a science concept, retelling a historical event or making a community announcement. Using nothing but a PC, webcam and FREE software, this workshop will teach you how to create your own movies.

Moodle for Assessment

Participants will learn how to use Moodle for assessment, focussing mainly on formative assessment. Participants will also examine some options for using this facility in other ways to support a class. At the end of the workshop participants will backup their course so they can move it to a Moodle installation of their choice.

AJAX is a framework for developing browser-based applications using a combination of HTMl, CSS, Javascript and a server-side language like PHP to access and online DBMS like MySQL.
This full day workshop will examine the full software development cycle when developing with AJAX including:
Problem Definition Tables
Algorithm Design in Pseudocode
Top-Down Design Diagrams for outlining applications that use the event-based programming methodology of AJAX
Implementing programs in AJAX
Testing and Debugging
Evaluation and Communication
Participants will work through a set of prepared exercises that can used in IPT or modified to suit.

This full day workshop will focus on the cool things you can do with PHP. The skills learnt in this workshop could provide the basis for a minor or major project in your IPT course. A small amount of time will be spent looking at the server software required and how to create a database backend to drive a dynamic PHP website, but a completed database will also be provided so the majority of the time can be spent exploring the possibilities of programming dynamic web based applications in PHP.

A workshop for web design beginners. (Year 2 and 3 students have made use of it to publish their own sites!) Use the freeware program, Kompozer to develop simple pages that are capable of opening up your classroom to the world. Education Queensland staff will be shown how to upload to their MIS web space. The creative possibilities of this tool are limited only by the imagination of your students! Learn the basics standards of W3C and engage in conversation around the possibilities that become available as you and your students develop a window for the world to look into your classroom to share the wonderful things you are doing.

Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. As young people create and share Scratch projects, they learn important mathematical and computational ideas. Students also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. This introductory course covers the basics skills necessary to run Scratch activities within your classroom. Scratch is a free download, available at www.scratch.mit.edu

Participants will learn how to install Moodle from scratch on a remote Linux server running Apache, MySQL and PHP. Previous experience with a Linux server would help but is not essential.
