The Queensland Schools Web Challenge for 2008 is up and running!

QSITE is once again hosting the Queensland Schools Web Challenge which is annual website competition for studentsThe theme for 2008 is ’Regional Australia’
Entries are due on Friday 5 September 2008.
The Queensland Schools Web Challenge is an exciting opportunity for students to:
Interact with local communities
Explore the Internet as a tool for communication and research
Participate in the design and publishing of a web page or web site
... and win prizes.
Students are to choose their own interpretation of the theme, form a team and create a website!
The categories for teams for 2008 are:
Junior Category (Years 5 – 8)
Middle Secondary (Years 9 - 10)
Open Category (Years 11 – 12, QUT*)
* The competition has been expanded to allow 1st year education students at QUT to participate which is an exciting challenge for Year 11 and 12 students. Please note this is a trial for 2008.
The categories have also been restructured for 2008 to provide a better balance in terms of the number of entries received in each category and the standard of entries submitted.
The categories and entries received will be reviewed during judging.
This year, a number of teachers who have experience in competing in the Web Challenge have offered to be mentors for first time participants. If you need advice or help, you can contact any of the mentors via email. The mentors for 2008 are:

Queensland Schools Web Challenge 2008
QSITE invites students to start working on their entries for the 2008 Queensland Schools Web Challenge. The theme for this year is:
Regional Australia...
The Queensland Schools Web Challenge is the former Australian Schools Web Challenge developed by Access Online, who conducted the competition between 1997 and 2000.
The competition provides the opportunity for students to:
- Interact with local communities
- Explore the Internet as a tool for communication and research
- Participate in the design and publishing of a web page or web site
How can I take the challenge?
1. Form a team.
A team can have between 2 and 4 students.
Read the rules and conditions for the competition and the judging criteria.
Choose a team name.
2. Ask a teacher to be your team's mentor.
The teacher mentor must be a staff member at your school or institution.
Your school or insitution must have QSITE Institutional Membership.
If your teacher needs help, they can make contact with any of the following teachers who have experience in entering the Web Challenge:

3. Choose a topic for your website.
Teams are to make their own interpretation of the theme.
Find sources of information about your topic.
You may like to connect with students in schools in regional areas for this project.
4. Work out with your mentor how you will publish your website.
Your completed websites need to be published on the Internet for judges to view.
If you do not have facilities to do this at your school, contact Aussie School House to apply for web space.
5. Register your team.
Register your entry using the registration form.
Registrations and entries are due Friday 5 September 2008.
6. Create your website.
Create a website using any web publishing software you have available.
Your website should identify key issues - eg. WHAT, WHY, WHEN, HOW, and WHO. This website might help you plan the content for your website.
