Queensland Schools Web Challenge 2010

QSITE invites students to start working on their entries for the 2010 Queensland Schools Web Challenge. The theme for this year is:

All Walks of Life: The Year of Biodiversity.

The Queensland Schools Web Challenge is the former Australian Schools Web Challenge developed by Access Online, who conducted the competition between 1997 and 2000.

The competition provides the opportunity for students to:

  • Interact with local communities
  • Explore the Internet as a tool for communication and research
  • Participate in the design and publishing of a web page or web site

How can I take the challenge?

1. Form a team.
A team can have between 2 and 4 students. Read the rules and conditions for the competition and the judging criteria. Choose a team name.

2. Ask a teacher to be your team's mentor.
The teacher mentor must be a staff member at your school or institution. Your school or insitution must have QSITE Institutional Membership.

If your teacher needs help, they can make contact with any of the following teachers who have experience in entering the Web Challenge:

3. Choose a topic for your website.
Teams are to make their own interpretation of the theme. Find sources of information about your topic. You may like to connect with students in schools in regional areas for this project.

4. Work out with your mentor how you will publish your website.
Your completed websites need to be published on the Internet for judges to view. If you do not have facilities to do this at your school, contact Aussie School House to apply for web space.

5. Register your team.
Register your entry using the registration form. Registrations and entries are due Friday 10 September 2010.

6. Create your website.
Create a website using any web publishing software you have available. Your website should identify key issues - eg. WHAT, WHY, WHEN, HOW, and WHO. This website might help you plan the content for your website.
